Complete Guide to the DS-160 Form and Consular Interview for Hondurans (2025)
The DS-160 form is the first step and foundation of every US non-immigrant visa application. In 2025, there are important changes every Honduran must know before starting their application. A mistake on the DS-160 can cost you not just this visa, but future applications as well.
Important changes in 2025
- New appointment system (since September 2024): The US Embassy in Honduras migrated to the official usvisa-info.com system. The old system is no longer used.
- AA barcode requirement (since May 2025): Your DS-160 confirmation number must start with "AA" and match exactly the one used to schedule your appointment. A mismatch may prevent you from entering the consulate.
- Mandatory social media section: You must declare ALL social media accounts you've had in the last 5 years. Officers actively verify this in 2025.
How to fill out the DS-160 correctly
Before you start
- Have your valid passport in front of you — your name must appear EXACTLY as it does in the passport.
- Save your application ID and retrieval code each time you pause — the session expires after 20 minutes of inactivity.
- Use a stable internet connection. A disconnect may require starting over.
Personal information section
Use your legal name exactly as it appears in your passport. If there's an error in your passport, correct it BEFORE filling out the DS-160.
Social media section
This is the most critical section in 2025. You must include:
- Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, Twitch and any other platform you use or have used in the last 5 years.
- Do not omit any accounts. Omitting an account you have is misrepresentation under Section 212(a)(6)(C)(i) — a permanent bar.
- If you no longer have the password for an old account, you must still list it.
Travel history
List ALL countries you have visited. If you've been to the US or any other country, include it. Biometric checks discover omissions.
Purpose of visit
Don't just write "tourism." Write: "Tourism — visiting [city], [dates], [specific attractions or family visit]." The DS-160 narrative establishes your story before the officer even sees you.
Visa photo — exact requirements
- Size: 5x5 cm (2x2 inches)
- Color, plain white or off-white background
- Taken within the last 6 months
- No glasses (prohibited since 2016, unless medically necessary and documented)
- Neutral expression, closed mouth
On the day of the consular interview
- Arrive 45 minutes early for your appointment — the Embassy in Tegucigalpa is explicit about this.
- Bring your DS-160 confirmation page (with the barcode starting in AA).
- The interview lasts 2-4 minutes. The officer will make a quick decision based on your documents and answers.
- Practice these questions out loud:
- Who are you and what do you do?
- Where are you going and why?
- When are you returning and why will you return?
- What do you have in Honduras that compels you to come back?
- If you need 30 seconds to think about any of those answers, you are not prepared.
